"OUR AIM IS TO PROVIDE THE GREATEST POSSIBLE CARE

AND SET NEW STANDARDS IN THE FIELD OF DENTISTRY."

The specially built dental clinic in Abingdon-on-Thames is the realisation of a life long dream by husband and wife dentists Samantha and Thomas. Having lived, worked and studied in Oxfordshire they understand the importance of supporting their community and treating their patients like family.

Married in 2014 at Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons Oxfordshire, their aim was always to create a bespoke fully private dental clinic where they could provide the highest quality dental care in the world using the best materials and equipment for their patients in a friendly, safe and clean environment.

With over a decades worth of experience in providing quality dental care, their goal is to not only improve the standard of treatments but also provide an unparalleled patient experience.

DR SAMANTHA DAWN HEIDARI GDC 250693

Samantha is the brains behind the operation. She gained a first class honours in chemistry from Oxford University (New College) and then went on to complete her under graduate dental qualification from Queens University (UK). Samantha also completed further post graduate qualifications at the Royal College of Surgeons England obtaining her MJDF. Her ability to explain complex procedures in an uncomplicated friendly manner and yet provide treatment in the most simple and painless way possible makes her a constant patient favourite. As well as being a mother to an excitable three year old she still manages to keep the clinic running like a well oiled machine. She is something truly special and without her the clinic would not be what it is today.

Hobbies and interests: Cycling, functional fitness, baking cakes (anything with Mary Berry!).

THE OLD GAOL ABINGDON

We chose this unique location for its beauty and historical importance. It was built between 1805 and 1818. Archeological evidence on the site states that the general area has been occupied since the early 12th century.

The original plan for the Gaol was a prison from John Howard's reform ideas. The three wings arranged around a four storey central block ensured that the different categories of offender were separated, and the numerous small cells were in keeping with the idea that prisoners should sleep in single cells.

The Old Gaol is unique in that the wings are not detached from the central block. The octagonal central block which contained a stunning spiral staircase (which is still present), kitchen and Grand Jury room on the ground floor, Keeper's bed rooms and a drawing room on the first floor, a chapel and a school on the second floor and an infirmary on the third floor.

The Gaol had a court house attached to it and the county police station fronting Bridge Street and adjoining Turnagain Lane to the north of the Gaol was built in 1856. The Abingdon Gaol fulfilled its original purpose for 57 years and closed in 1868 when Reading replaced Abingdon as the county town of Berkshire.

In 1874 the building was sold to Harris & Matthews Corn and Seed Merchants who converted the core building into a corn store until 1971. In this year, the Gaol was added to the statutory list as Grade II and the council developed the site for a new sports and arts complex. A large sports hall and swimming pool were built as additions to the existing building and a glass atrium was erected in the location of the former Court House between the northern and eastern wings. The sports and art centre closed in 2002 and stood empty for many years until it was converted to a modern living complex and housed us TAHA Dental Excellence giving the Old Gaol a brand new lease of life and hopefully maintaining its charm for many years to come for future generations.
